Connect this scanner to your PC via USB.
Scanners aren't the most inspiring PC peripherals but Xerox has managed to breathe new life into an old product with much success. The One Touch is an A4 flatbed scanner that connects to PC via USB.
It comes with PaperPort software which, in addition to acting as the scanner driver, is a powerful piece of image-archiving software that is designed to manage and organise scanned documents. Text Bridge OCR software is also included, allowing you to scan documents and extract their text for editing in a word processor.
There is also a handy function for those who aren't sure how to appropriately re-size their images for email. Simply load your image, click the Email button and the image will be scanned at a suitable resolution then pasted into a new Outlook Express email.
It's also very fast. A top-quality 1200 x 4800dpi scan of an A4 image took around a minute. The unit carries a 300 x 450mm footprint and is finished in dark silver and grey. At £60, it's not the cheapest flatbed but its simple software will allow anyone to make the most out of scanning.
