Add HD-movie disc playback to your computer
The drive reads Blu-ray discs at the 12x speed and it can write DVDs at the fastest 16x speed
This disc drive can read and create all kinds of CDs and DVDs, and it can also play back (but not create) Blu-ray discs.
Once you have added it to your PC, you can watch the latest high-definition films on Blu-ray disc. Because it cannot create Blu-ray discs the drive cannot be used for backup, but we would caution against using Blu-ray for such a purpose anyway (a USB hard disk is a better choice) so it's no great loss.
It uses the Sata connection so you will need a Sata power and data plugs free inside your PC – and of course fitting it will require opening the PC, and having a spare drive bay. Fitting it was easy on our test PC, but some computers make it harder to fit new drives.
The drive reads Blu-ray discs at the 12x speed, which is good, and it can write DVDs at the fastest 16x speed. It also supports Lightscribe, which means it can literally burn a label onto the top of certain special discs.
It includes Cyberlink software for making and playing discs, as well as making labels, and is available for £50 online, which is a bargain.
It's available from www.scan.co.uk.
