A simple but effective writing tool for tablet computers
The pen felt solid and was pleasant to hold
Wacom is best known for making graphics tablets that are ideal if you want to draw on a computer using a pen-like controller.
In recent years a new type of tablet has grabbed the headlines, though, so the company has released the Bamboo Stylus, a special pen for drawing on the Apple iPad.
The iPad's glass-covered screen is designed to record finger touches, so a simple plastic stylus won't work.
Instead the Bamboo Stylus has a soft, rounded rubber end that is detected by the iPad. It will also work with any other modern tablet computer that uses a glass touchscreen.
It worked perfectly. Just download one of the many sketching or note-taking tools from the App Store (including Wacom's own) and you can draw, write or scribble on the display.
The pen felt solid and was pleasant to hold. Our one complaint is the price: on sale at £25-30, the Bamboo Stylus is far too expensive. If the price was half that it would be an ideal way for every iPad user to take notes or draw or paint, but until then, it's for keen digital artists only.
