A simple USB charger for in-car use
This ‘universal' charger for all sorts of gadgets plugs into a car's 12v ‘cigarette lighter' socket.
It's tiny – the stainless steel unit is less than 5cm long – and doesn't stick out much from the socket. It was, however, easy to put in and take out.
It has a USB socket on the back, and if your device can be charged from a USB connection you can plug its cable into this and go. Otherwise you will need to attach the supplied retractable USB cable, then plug one of the supplied adapter tips into that (it includes tips for Samsung, Nokia, Sony Ericsson K750i, LG Chocolate, Sony PSP and both mini-USB and micro-USB for devices that use those).
It doesn't activate until a device is plugged in to charge, so you can leave the main adapter plugged into the car without draining the battery. It also cuts off if it detects that the device is fully charged.
The only problem was that it doesn't come with any kind of carry-case so it's easy to lose the bits. Regardless, at £20 (and under £15 online) it's a bargain.
