Buffalo WMBR-HP-GNV2

Also known as the Wireless N150 High Power ADSL2+ Modem Router

Buffalo WMBR-HP-GNV2

It is designed to replace your own ADSL modem router

Buffalo continues to give its products names and model numbers that are impossible to remember (this one is called the Wireless N150 High Power ADSL2+ Modem Router, in addition to the above cryptic model number).

This one is a modem-router. It is designed to replace your own ADSL modem router, should the original one break or if you need extra features. The ‘2+' indicates that it will work with all ADSL broadband connections.

The main advantage is that a wireless network created by this router will work with the most recent, fastest 802.11n standard. Unfortunately the company hasn't seen fit to include the newest, fastest ‘gigabit' network sockets as well, so if your devices are wired they are limited to slower speeds. That's not a big deal for most, but with newer, larger network hard disks coming with the fastest wired network ports, it's a shame not to have the same on this router.

It was easy to install and worked well, although Buffalo's browser-based configuration tool is looking increasingly dated (not that other router makers do any better, by and large). It can be sat flat or stood on its side.

For anyone who needs to replace an ADSL router, it may lack the features of more expensive models (such as VOIP) but overall it's good value.
