The Exomount in action (car not included)
The Exomount is a device mount, useful if you've lost the original mount for your satellite navigator or for smartphone users who have downloaded a satellite navigation app but now have no way to prop their devices up in the car.
Squeezing the Exomount's back opens its two ‘jaws' to clamp the device in-between. We were a little worried about the amount of pressure this was applying to the glass on the gadgets but we saw no ill effects after several tries.
Devices can be held vertically or horizontally – the rubber-lined jaws extend to a maximum of 10cm (4in).
Its makers say it's ‘the world's strongest' mount. The suction cup is sticky , and the suction was good enough to clamp it to a car's interior, wood or plasterboard, though it wasn't strong enough to cling to brick.
Our only problem was that the ball joint connecting the suction section and the jaws sometimes slipped while we were driving, causing the device to sag – we had to tap it to push it up again. Otherwise this is a good mount, as long as your device will fit.
