Carry dozens of radio stations around with you
The Pure Move 2500 is a portable DAB radio that can access digital radio and FM broadcasts.
It's a portable device about the size of an iPod or a slim cigarette packet, 6x10 cm and a little over 1cm thick. It has a black plastic front and, like some iPod models, a metallic back panel. It's smaller and slimmer than Pure's older Pocket DAB 1500.
The radio doesn't look particularly great – it does its job, design-wise, but otherwise its looks are nothing to write home about. There is a small ‘hold' switch at the top and two sockets at the bottom – for headphones and for power. The power socket uses the micro-USB standard so it should be fairly easy to replace should you lose the supplied mains adapter. The back cover comes off to reveal the rechargeable battery inside, which offers up to 14 hours' listening time.
The front-panel screen is a black-and-white display that shows two lines of text. It has a backlight so it was easy to read, and the backlight turns itself off after a while to save power (this behaviour can be changed in the menus).
A scroll-wheel on the front, with a single button in the middle, is the only real control: scrolling it clockwise or anti-clockwise changes the volume, pressing on the left of the wheel brings up the list of stations (again, scrolling the wheel moves through the list) and pressing right brings up favourite stations which you can set and access.
Pressing the top of the wheel opens the menus from which you can tune the radio (a one-off job unless you're travelling far, but in any case quick and painless), change the backlight, use the sleep timer and set bass and treble levels.
We found the controls a bit fiddly – remembering which button to press to get back to a certain menu item was a hassle – but sound quality was good. It's not as good as from a larger fixed digital radio but both music and speech were quite listenable through the supplied headphones or others.
The Pure Move 2500 is a compact, light (105g) and generally very good digital radio receiver.
