Colourful headphones, but muddy sound
The headphones are designed to sit on top of the user’s ears rather than covering them
When you buy a portable music player it is wise to consider upgrading the headphones.
Most players come with headphones that are of questionable quality that don't deliver the best audio or comfort. With that in mind, the Radiopaq Duo Headphones, costing £20, might seem attractive.
The headphones looked great with a choice of five vibrant colours: bright green, orange, purple, grey and black. For £20, the quality was pretty much what we expected. However, they are made of cheap, bendy plastic that made them very lightweight. They also felt rather fragile.
The headphones are designed to sit on top of the user's ears rather than covering them. While these ‘on ear' headphones are normally comfortable, this wasn't the case with the Duos, which bent our ears backwards and applied an uncomfortable amount of pressure. The poor fit also ensured that sound leaked from the ‘cans'.
While sound quality was okay, it was characterised by muddy, overly strong bass and a general lack of audio clarity.
Still, £20 for a pair of headphones that aren't ugly and grey isn't a bad price. Just be prepared for certain compromises.
