Buffalo Airstation High Power N300 Gigabit Wireless Router

Cable users can upgrade to ‘wireless n’ too

Two plastic aerial sections fold out from the top of the router to increase the wireless range

Buffalo continues its plan to give its products the most unwieldy names possible with this product, which has the full name above and the model number WZR-HP-G300NH.

It's a router, but not a modem router, so it's ideal for people on cable internet connections (Virgin Media) as it will plug straight into the cable modem.

It was fairly small and easy to set up, and it comes with a stand, so it can be stood upright, and an aerial extender that allows it to increase the range of its wireless network.

Otherwise two plastic aerial sections fold out from the top. It can work with the latest 802.11n wireless network standard, so it's great if you have a laptop or mobile phone that supports that (or you can upgrade with a product such as the Netgear WNA1000M).

It was easy to set up and, usefully, comes with different configuration software to most Buffalo products – it's a program called DD-WRT, which makes setup much easier and generally looks more professional.

It's a small addition but a significant one that makes this a good-value replacement router.
