Microsoft Wedge Mobile Keyboard review

A portable wireless keyboard for Windows 8

This keyboard has keys for Windows 8 charms

The Microsoft Wedge Mobile Keyboard is a compact and minimalist portable wireless keyboard. Although it works with any Bluetooth-equipped computer, including the iPad, it is designed specifically for use with Windows 8 tablets. The cover, which automatically turns the keyboard off when affixed, also folds over for use as a tablet stand.

There are dedicated keys for all the buttons in the Windows 8 Charms bar. There are also volume, mute and play/pause keys. These can be a quick and handy alternative to using the touchscreen. Although the keys have enough travel so they feel responsive, they're packed in too closely to each other so typos are far too easy to make.

Power is provided by a pair of included AAA disposable batteries. It's propped up by a non-adjustable, built-in plastic stand which may suit some, but others may find this angle uncomfortable. Although the Wedge Mobile Keyboard looks stylish and its Windows 8 shortcut keys are handy, the small keys and high cost won't appeal to everyone. Try before you buy if you can.
