Tired of Windows wallpaper? Use this free service to create snazzy collages
Go to www.collagr.com. Next, open a new tab in your browser and type in the address of the photo service – we’re using www.flickr.com because we already have an account there; if you want to use photos taken by someone else, make sure the licence says it’s OK. To open our photostream click the link, highlighting the address line at the top of the browser, right-click it and choose Copy from the menu.
Switch back to Collagr, right-click in the empty box and choose Paste from the pop-up menu. Then click the Build it button. After a moment, the collage appears in the centre of the screen Collagr goes off to the Flickr photos service, grabs a random selection from our library of photos there and then arranges them into a single image. Click on the links above the image to add it to an email, turn it into a Myspace background or a live web link.
Use the settings on the right to change the background colour, alter the layout, reduce the size of the collage or add a special-effect filter, such as greyscale then click the Build It Again button. Here for example we’ve reduced the size to 1,024x819 pixels to make it a better fit for our Windows Desktop. Then, we just click on the image and it opens in a new window. Right-click it again and choose Set as Background and Windows will turn the collage into wallpaper.
