Learn how to add tags to Word 2007 documents so you can find them more easily
Start by creating a new document in Word 2007. Type in some text and then click on the Office button at the top left and choose Save from the menu. When the dialogue box opens, ensure that the document type is set to 'Word Document' and then hover the pointer over the Tags field option in the Details panel at the bottom. Left-click once and then type in a tag to help identify the document. Want to add more than one? Tap the right cursor (arrow) key twice and type it in. Press Enter.
Close the Word document and then imagine that you have forgotten not only its name but also where it is stored. Fortunately, for the purposes of this workshop, you can at least remember one of the tags so click the Windows Start button to open the main menu and then type the tag into the search box. If it’s a single-word tag, just type that. If like ours, it’s more than one word, enclose them in double inverted commas, like so – “my new tag”. After a second, the document will appear at the top of the Start menu.
You can add more tags to a document in the same way or use Windows Explorer. Some file types (like pictures) always display tags in the Details pane at the bottom of the currently opened window. If you can’t see this, click Organize, then Layout, then Details Pane. Others, like documents, do not. It doesn’t matter. Right-click on the document in the Explorer window and choose Properties. When the dialogue box opens, click the Details tab and you can add or remove tags from there.
