A special case can reduce the noise of a hard disk without risking it over heating
After fans, the noisiest component in your computer is likely to be the hard disk unless you have an SSD. The Himuru Fanless 3.5in hard disk muffles the sound while improving cooling.
Open the case and fit the hard disk to the part with the foam with the connectors by the gap.
Replace the other part of the enclosure over the top and use the black screws to fix it in place. Find a spare 5.25in bay in the computer and use the silver screws to fix the hard disk in enclosure in place.
Reconnect the hard disk. You will need to use straight Sata connectors to fit through the enclosure as right angled connectors won't fit properly.
