Turn on file sharing and use SMB to open files you created using a Mac on a Windows computer
Step 1
To turn on file sharing, open System Preferences and click on Sharing. Tick the box next to File Sharing, click the Options button to reach this screen, and ensure that the SMB option is ticked. You only need to tick the box next to a user below if you want to share their public folder on your network. Click Done.
Step 2
If you want to share any folder on your Mac’s disk, click the ‘+’ button at the bottom of the Shared Folders list, browse to the folder and click Add. You will see the folder appear in the list, like our ‘CA Macintosh’ folder here. Above the list, you’ll also see a link that network users can use to reach this PC.
Step 3
Now you can choose what access users have to the folder, via the Users column on the right. Marking a folder as a ‘Drop Box’ means other people can put files in it, but can’t remove anything. To create a new user click ‘+’, then New Person and enter a name and password that Windows users need to connect to the Mac.
