Sometimes it is easier to edit configuration files or web pages directly rather than using specific software, and don't ever think about using Word. Source Edit is an excellent alternative for Notepad in these circumstances.

It includes line numbers and a file explorer, which is very useful when there are several files in the same folder to be edited. If you find yourself working with several files on a regular basis, the Workspace manager allows you to save these files.

Files can be opened directly from websites as Source Edit can connect to FTP sites directly, removing the need for a separate program.

Text can be wrapped to fit a screen to avoid the need to scroll from side to side. Other editing aids include code completion and find matching braces (the { and } used to mark out areas of programming code).

Source Edit has an HTML output option where the colour coding given to text is added as formatting information, very useful if you want to post code on the web. Colour coding can be applied to the following kinds of files: ASP, PHP, Java, C/C++, C#, Visual Basic, Pascal, Perl, Cold Fusion, SQL, HTML, CSS, XML.

There is a toolbar with common HTML formatting codes to make editing web pages easier.
