Although there are many websites that host blogs, using your own internet account ensures you get the address you want.

The WordPress software is exactly the same as is used on the hosted service at Wordpress.com and is opensource, so there is no cost for downloading and installing it.

Before going any further we should point out that WordPress requires a website that has a MySQL database as well as PHP support. PHP is supported just about every hosting account but the MySQL database may not be available on the cheapest deals. WordPress also requires the mod_rewrite Apache software. If you are unsure it is best to contact the webhost directly.

Writing posts is easy with plenty of formatting options. It is also possible to write permanent pages for the website so that important information is not lost.

The links for posts are also created in a user-friendly format rather than strange letter and number combinations. This is both helpful when sharing links and also for improving your websites standing with search engines.

The appearance of the website is set using Themes and there are lots available to use at no cost. It is also possible to edit the Themes if you are willing to get your hands dirty with the HTML code.

If you want to get a feel for WordPress without having to install it, blogging accounts at WordPress.com can be created at no cost.
