Q I have two computers. With one, I use a dial-up modem
connection to access my service provider and the other a router to my broadband
connection. Both sockets have their own ADSL microfilter. Is it okay for me to
feed both computers through one telephone point? The filter has two sockets, one
for phone and one for ADSL, so can I plug the dial-up modem into one and the
router into the other?
A It won’t be a problem for you to connect both computers to
one socket – plug the dial-up modem into the phone part of the microfilter, and
the router into the ADSL part. However, it might be easier to use the router to
connect both computers to the broadband connection. If the router doesn’t have
multiple network sockets, it’s possible to buy a hub from any high-street or
internet computer store, that plugs into the router’s network port. You can then
plug both computers into this.
