Q My broadband connection stops every time someone makes a
telephone call to our house. It comes back if the router is reset, but is very
inconvenient.

A There are several things to check to stop this from
happening. First, make sure there are good-quality ADSL filters installed on all
the phone sockets in the house, even if there are no phones fitted to them.
If this is not the problem, it may be a symptom of bad internal wiring or
low-quality extension leads. Don’t forget to check the REN numbers on all the
phones connected to the phone line. If the total is more than four, it can lead
to problems.
It is also worth contacting the phone company and asking it to check the
line.
