PC help: Printers and Linux

Q I have tried various versions of Linux and decided upon Mandriva 2007. My biggest frustration with Linux has been the lack of printer drivers; my Canon printer is not recognised so I have been unable to use it.
James Acey

A Sadly, support for printers in Linux is still a little patchy but a little digging can provide the required drivers and information.

There is a website dedicated to listing drivers for Linux at www.linux-drivers.org with a specific section for printers at www.linux-drivers.org/printer_scanner.html.

Canon does provide Linux drivers for some of its printers at www.canon-europe.com/support/software/linux. The supported printers are the Pixma iP1000, iP1500, iP2200 and iP4200, but you can sign up at www.canon-europe.com/support/software/ linux/registration.asp to register interest for other printers. The Australian Canon site has more printer drivers for Linux at www.canon.com.au.
