PC help: Can’t get Access to databases
Retrieve old Access files

Q I have some database files that were created using
Microsoft Access when I had a copy of Office 2000 Premium edition.
My new computer came with Office Home and Student 2007, which doesn’t have
Access. Is there any way that I can retrieve these files, without having Access
installed on my computer?

A Excel will happily import Access database (MDB) files,
although how well it imports them is another matter. If the Access database is
complicated, it may not be possible to use Excel to disentangle it.
If, however, you just want to get to the tables of data contained inside the
Access database, load it into Excel. To do so, click the File menu and Open,
then select Access Databases from the dropdown list marked ‘Files of Type’ at
the bottom of the dialogue box. Then navigate to the folder in which your
database is stored and select it as normal.
