PC help: Stop keystroke loggers

Q Am I correct in thinking that by using the onscreen
keyboard facility in Windows XP I am immune to intrusion by keystroke loggers?

A Not quite. Only the very simplest of keystroke logging
programs work by monitoring what’s being typed.
More recent and more advanced programs will watch what’s being input onscreen
instead, so any keystroke entries will be logged, whether they come from a
physical keyboard or an onscreen one.
The best way to ensure that you’re not being tracked online is to make sure
you have up-to-date anti-spyware and anti-virus programs installed, and that
they’re run at regular intervals. If either
has ‘immunisation’ or automatic checking features, these should be enabled.
You should also have a fully configured firewall running. Go to
www.windowsupdate.com
and follow the prompts to Critical Updates. If none are listed, the computer is
up to date.
