Q When typing in Openoffice Writer, a blue picture with a
light bulb appears in the bottom right-hand corner of the screen. This becomes
annoying when writing at the bottom of the document. Is there any way to turn
this off?
Steve Jenkins
A This is the Help Agent, the Openoffice equivalent of
Microsoft Office’s Office Assistant, although thankfully it is less
ingratiating.
The icon normally appears to alert you that Openoffice has automatically
corrected a spelling mistake. Clicking on the Help Agent will display a page
from the Openoffice help explaining what has been changed.
Turning it off is quite simple. Click on the Tools menu, then on Options.
Click on the General option under Openoffice.org in the left-hand section of the
window and click in the box labelled Help Agent to remove the tick. This alert
will no longer appear.
