Q I am currently using Windows Vista Home Premium. Whenever
I open Word attachments from emails, there is no formatting and the text makes
no sense.
I can only think it has been encrypted with a password. What has happened and
how can I get the text back?

A First of all, check which program you are using to open
the document. The most likely cause is that you have not got Word installed and
the document is being opened with Wordpad.
Wordpad as it was supplied with Windows XP would open Word documents, but
this ability has been removed in Windows Vista.
There are two ways around this, other than buying Word. The first is to
download
and install the Word Viewer program. This can display and print the contents
of a Word document or be used to copy and paste the contents to another file.
A more direct way of editing the documents is to
download and install
Openoffice, although at nearly 100Mb, it is quite a big download for dial-up
users.
