The Vista Mail database can occasionally become corrupt. One of the symptoms
can be phantom messages in the outbox that cannot be deleted. To deal with this
problem, I rely on a small but useful utility called WMHelp, which can be
downloaded
here.
Once installed, this can be used to deal with many problems of the Vista Mail
database, including repairing, defragmenting and compacting the database, as
well as clearing the outbox.
