When I upgraded to a new computer I found that I had to set up Outlook
Express again, but I did not know what I should enter when asked for a password.
On the old computer I didn’t have to enter a password to get to my mail. Barbara Jackson
Your
ISP
uses a username and password to identify you and your email. If you’re using
Outlook Express or a similar program, you or whoever set up the computer will
have entered these at some point. The program remembers them, which is why you
have not had to enter them again. The username and password should be contained
in a letter or other document sent by the ISP when you set up an account.
If you don’t have the username or password for your email inbox, you may be
able to recover them using the
MailPV
utility on your old computer, if you still have access to it. Download the file
and install and run it. It will show you a list of all the email accounts set up
on that computer, along with their passwords.
If you don’t have access to the old computer, or the program doesn’t show the
correct password, you will need to call your ISP’s technical support line, with
your username, customer account number and any other identifying details. They
should be able to reset your password.
Beware that many ISPs charge, sometimes at a
premium
rate, for this kind of telephone support.
