No Problem: The wrong disc

I have a Sony Handycam DCR-DVD105e digital camcorder that records straight to DVD. It takes 8cm discs – but is there a way in which I can transfer the video on to a standard 12cm DVD? The Handycam came with the Nero 6 software, but I can’t work out how to use that to convert it to a standard DVD. Is there some other software I can use?

It appears that the video files produced by this Sony camcorder can’t actually be edited using the supplied Nero software. You may, however, be able to play them directly in your DVD player – as long as it’s not a ‘slot-loading’ model. If it’s a standard DVD player with a tray, you should be able to drop the 8cm disc into the recessed section of the tray.

You may need to finalise the disc first, before it’s playable on a DVD player. The option to do this can be found on the camcorder. A few people have reported that they’ve been able to edit the discs using the Video Tools software from AVS Media. This costs $40 (£21) but a free trial version is available here.

The trial displays a watermark on the edited video but it is fully working, so you can give it a go to make sure it works before you buy.
