Why the Num Lock light stays on when you switch off your PC

Q When I shut down my computer, the Num Lock Light stays on.
The only way to get it to go out is switch off at the mains.

A The light stays on because power buttons on modern PCs do
not block the electricity from the computer. Therefore, the motherboard is still
active, although in an extremely low-powered consumption mode.
This is because PCs can be set up to turn themselves back on if a message is
received by the network card or modem. There is no reason to worry about this,
as so little electricity is used, but the only way to completely shut down the
computer is to turn it off at the mains.
