Online storage isn’t new, but it’s rarely free. Microsoft’s Skydrive is the
latest addition to the ever-growing Windows Live family of internet-based
services offered to people with a Windows Live ID (which, in most cases, is
simply the email address used to sign in to Windows Live Messenger or Hotmail).
The idea is simple: copy files from your PC to an online drive the Skydrive
that can be accessed via the internet. This means that anything stored on the
Skydrive can be used with any computer connected to the web.
It’s also possible to share folders, meaning, for example, that colleagues
can have access to the same files. It isn’t perfect, as we’ll see, but with 5GB
of free storage on offer it’s worth investigating.
