If you work with a title row or column in a large worksheet in Excel and find
that you keep needing to scroll back and forth to check the headings, then why
not fix that row or column in place? In this way, when you scroll, the title row
or column remains in place.
To do this for a title row, highlight the row above the first data row and
choose Freeze Panes from the Window menu. The technique for freezing headings in
a column is in essence the same – just highlight the column to the left of the
first data row.
To freeze both rows and columns, select the appropriate cell before executing
the Freeze Panes command. To turn this feature off, open the Window menu and
choose Unfreeze Panes.
