Speakers are one of the most overlooked components of the home computer set-up. Folks will ensure they get the fastest processor, loads of memory and great graphics but may not know which speakers they own.

Even if you end up with a really indifferent set of speakers, trading up isn't a problem. Take the Edifer R321Ts: a pair of simple stereo speakers with a subwoofer, and they cost just £22.

For that money buyers can't expect much, but these Edifer speakers will be a pleasant surprise. In line with good quality hi-fi speakers, the cases are made from wood, rather than cheaper, inferior plastic.

The small stands for the satellites need to be screwed into the base but once that is done, it's a simple matter of plugging in and listening.

The volume and bass controls are hidden away around the back of the subwoofer which makes them pretty inaccessible but there is a volume control on a cable which can be mounted near the keyboard for easy access.

In short, the overall sound quality from these speakers is superb at this price.
