If you got a new PC for Christmas but fancy upgrading the speakers, you could do worse than to plump for a 2.1 system, such as the Creative Inspire T2900.

The '2.1' stands for two satellite speakers and a subwoofer. The two satellites produce high-frequency sounds, such as speech and high-pitched instruments that cause less reverberation. Rumbling bass is taken care of by the solid subwoofer, which is better suited to reverberations.[QQ] With the T2900, everything connects to the subwoofer. There's plenty of speaker cabling to position the sub on the floor while having the satellites mounted on the wall or freestanding on the desk. The remote control contains dials for adjusting volume and bass and there's an integrated M-PORT, for connecting Creative portable music players, and easy-access headphone and line-in sockets.

The T2900 is reasonably priced and while there are cheaper 2.1 systems on the market, the sound quality is excellent, although you'll have to balance bass and volume at louder settings to avoid distortion.
