The Mio Digiwalker C510E comes with a raft of flashy extras, such as a photo viewer and mp3 player.

Also featured is Bluetooth, which, with a Bluetooth mobile phone, allows the C510E to be used as a hands-free set thanks to its built-in microphone and speaker.

The latest version of the Mio Maps software is easy to use and controlled almost exclusively via the clear, colourful touch-screen. Usefully, street-level maps for the whole of Europe are provided on disc (although only the UK comes pre-loaded onto the machine).

The maps themselves are bang up to date and easy to work with. Best of all, the C510E was notably faster in operation than many of its rivals, so, for example, it won’t spend ages re-drawing maps as you zoom in or out of them.
