Notebook locks are normally business products, but with notebooks becoming more and more popular, they're increasingly useful for non-business users as well.

Students working in a library can use a notebook lock to secure the computer to a desk so that it doesn't need to be carried around on breaks, for instance.

The Cubebyte lock, like all locks, fits into the locking socket on the computer. This is a tiny hole in one side, only a few millimetres wide. It's also known as a Kensington lock/socket – most computers are fitted with them, but it's worth checking yours before investing in a lock, of course.

It's supplied with a pair of keys, with a unique number so that they can be replaced if you lose them (you need to register with the manufacturer when you buy the lock). The cable loops around itself and around a fixed table leg or pillar (obviously you need something fixed and sturdy to lock it to) to secure the notebook.

The Cubebyte fitted our test notebooks well and was sturdy and secure; £20 is a small investment for convenience and peace of mind.
