Verdict:

A great picture frame all round, and well worth the money

Rating:

5

Price:

£99

There are plenty of cheap digital picture frames these days, but in our opinion it's worth spending the extra money on a quality frame such as the DPF-D70 from Sony.

It has a 7in screen with a stand that allows it to stand on either its long or short side (it can detect this and auto-rotate the pictures so they're the right way up).

Cheaper frames tend to come with substandard screens, but the D70's is spectacular – clear, bright and sharp for all our test pictures. The frame itself is well built as well, with a clear, neat design that doesn't add too much bulk and keeps things simple, so that your photos are the main attraction. Even the lit Sony logo on the front can be switched off if you desire.

It has 256MB of memory for storage, which will hold several hundred pictures if you resize them first, or it can accept all the common memory card formats. There's a remote control, but the controls on the side were easy to use. The menus were a little fiddly, but it's fairly simple to switch between the various modes, including a clock and calendar.

In short, the DPF-D70 is highly recommended, particularly as it's up to £25 cheaper than the list price online.
