While children should not be discouraged from using portable music players,
their ears can be more sensitive than adults’, so the potential for damage from
loud sound is a worry.
Griffin’s
Myphones are over-the-ear headphones that are intended for children between
the ages of three and 12.
The main difference from a standard pair is the volume limiter which cannot
be switched off and ensures audio will never be louder than 85db (the volume of
city traffic and a level hearing experts have agreed is safe for children).
The headphones can be customised with one of three different coloured inserts
that come in the box, and children can create their own designs using one of the
two sets of plain white templates also included in the box.
We gave the Myphones to a child of the target age to play with, who was very
content with both the comfort and sound quality after spending five minutes
choosing and fitting their favourite design.
The Myphones are well designed for kids to use and in combining practicality
with a bit of fun Griffin has come up with a very appealing product for
safety-conscious parents.
