Mandriva Linux 2006 users now have a new way to install the latest software for their computers.
The Mandriva Kiosk web page is a new subscription service for this Linux distribution. Rather than having to download several CDs' worth of data or individual files, users can now select the software they want from a web page.
Many Linux programs depend on each other and missing one out will stop them from working. However, similar programs are grouped together to simplify the process and avoid problems.
For example, all the files for the KDE and Gnome desktops can be downloaded in one go.
The service is available for a yearly subscription fee or is included in the cost of the Mandriva Club membership.
There is a special launch price of €30 (about £20) for a one-year subscription. A Mandriva Club Silver account costs €11 a month (about £7.50).
