Sony has turned to Formula One technology for its latest Vaio laptop computer, the TX3.

It is using carbon fibre laminate for the TX3's case, more usually found in F1 cars, to make the case tough yet extrememly lightweight.

The ultraportable notebook weighs only 1.25kg and is just 4.5mm thick, with an 11.1in 16:9 LCD screen.

Features include a built-in webcam and microphone for internet telephone calls, wireless capabilities, finger print recognition software and a slim line battery with seven hours of life.

It also has a fully integrated DVD+/-RW drive supports double-layer disks, which can store up to four hours of DVD quality video.

It's available from mid-July and prices start at £1,499.
