Greenpeace
has slammed PC and technology manufacturers for failing to produce 'green'
computers.
The environmental campaigning organisation has put together a
Guide
to Greener Electronics which ranks companies on their use of harmful
chemicals and their recycling of electronic waste.
A scorecard
ranks
the top 14 mobile and computer makers, none of whom manages to score top
marks. At the top of the list are
Nokia and
Dell, both
of whom do well on recycling. Dell loses ground for continuing to use harmful
chemicals in some of its products.
Other companies that perform well according to Greenpeace's criteria are
HP,
Sony
Ericsson and Samsung.
Surprisingly,
Apple
comes low down the scale, with poor scores in almost all categories. The
bottom-ranked manufacturer in the list is notebook and PC
maker Lenovo,
which now owns the IBM Thinkpad brand.
