New 1.8in mini hard drives from Toshiba

Developed specifically for ultra-portable notebook computers

Written by Anna Lagerkvist, Computeract!ve

Toshiba has announced two new 1.8in mini hard disk drives, developed specifically for ultra-portable notebook computers and portable media players.

Incorporating perpendicular magnetic recording (PMR), the new dual-platter 80Gb MK8009GAH and single-platter 40Gb MK4009GAL drives are seven millimetres shorter than the company's current notebook hard disk drives.

Both new drives incorporate the ATA-6 interface and offer 8Mb of buffer memory.

"Mobile devices have fast become the consumer electronic of choice for consumers looking to store large amounts of very personal data such as their favourite movies and music or documents and presentations for work," said Martin Larsson, General Manager, Toshiba Europe Storage.

The drives are available now, but Toshiba were unable to disclose the price of them.
