AVG Anti-Virus 7.5 certified as effective

But its firewall is still not Vista ready

Grisoft has announced that its Vista-ready AVG Anti-Virus 7.5 software has been awarded Virus Bulletin’s VB100 award.

The award tests if anti-virus software finds and removes all presented viruses considered to be "in the wild". This includes Trojans, spyware, spam, rogue diallers and worms.

To earn VB100 certification, products must detect all the viruses contained in the Wildlist test set without generating any false alarms when scanning a set of clean files.

The Vista version of AVG Anti-Virus was also approved by ISCA Labs.

However, as reported in Computeractive when Vista was launched, users of the company’s firewall application must wait for the Vista-ready version of the product, which is not yet ready.

Larry Bridwell, global security strategist at Grisoft said: “[Although] the majority of our products have now been awarded Windows Vista certification, AVG Internet Security, due to the firewall, remains an exception and we are finalising work on a new, improved firewall version which will be Vista compatible.

“All users will be provided automatically with an update to the new Vista compatible version as soon as it is available," he said.
