Google Mail, the web-based email service from Google, is now available to all UK users.
Officially, the service is still 'in beta', meaning it is undergoing testing. While a 'beta' product, it was restricted to people who had been invited to join, but that restriction has now been lifted.
Launched in 2004 as Gmail, the service's name was changed to Google Mail in the UK after another company pointed out to Google that it already owned the Gmail trademark in this country.
