Intel has created what is claims is a 'playground-proof' notebook PC for UK
school children.
The 'Pupil Device' is aimed at children between the ages of seven and 18. It
has been reinforced to withstand any playground bumps and falls.
The computers will also come imprinted with school badges on the casing to
make them less attractive to thieves.
Intel has not disclosed any further
information about the computers, such as price, specifications and the operating
system, although an Intel spokesman claimed they would be "affordable".
The company has already launched a scheme in Brazil in which children have
been issued with a portable computer that Intel said has the same durability
features as the proposed UK computer.
The Brazilian version has been designed to run Windows or Linux.
The UK version of the notebooks will go on sale to schools from September
this year.
