While other elements of AVG's security software, including its anti-virus and
anti-spam tools, were ready for the January launch of Vista, the firewall
component was not.
The update announced this week is claimed to be one of the first to take
advantage of the network-filtering benefits provided by Microsoft’s new Windows
Filtering Platform. This works with firewalls to provide a stronger filtering
system.
The software, which costs £42 for a two-year subscription, also combines
anti-virus, anti-spyware, firewall and anti-spam defences with free customer
support and comprehensive remote administration tools.
Larry Bridwell, vice-president of global security strategies at Grisoft,
said: "Our developers had been working with Microsoft prior to the Vista launch
to ensure product compatibility throughout the new security infrastructure, and
to design the best user experience possible."
