Sony adds HD models to camera range

Camcorders have big memories and long recording time

Written by Andrea-Marie Vassou, Computeract!ve

Sony has launched three high-definition models to add to its digital camcorder range.

The SR8E, SR5E and SR7E AHD HDD Handycams all feature a Carl Zeiss lens, 10x optical zoom and an on-board microphone, which allows the recording of Dolby Digital surround sound. Still images can be snapped at 6.1 Megapixel on all models.

In addition the SR8E and SR7E come with Sony’s SteadyShot optical image stabilisation feature which reduces the shaking when videoing.

The SR5E, which offers a 40GB hard drive and up to 15 hours of recording time, is priced at £800 and the SR7E offering 60GB for 22 hours is £1,050.

However, the pricing for the SR8E, which features a 100GB hard disk and up to 38 hours of recording, is still to be confirmed. So too is the mini-HDMI cable which allows Sony Bravia users to connect the cameras directly to the television.

The cameras are expected to be available later in the year.
