Video-on demand provider Joost has opened
its doors to more members of the public giving them the opportunity to watch up
to 150 content channels on demand.
Backed by the founders of
Skype and file
sharing company Kazza, the
service was was only available to 'testers' until this week.
However, the company has now announced that it will be giving people
currently using the Beta version the opportunity to invite their friends, family
and colleagues to join the site.
Joost users go to the “Invite Friends” link in the “My Joost” area, and send
an invitation email.
Once the invite has been accepted, new users will be able to download the
free Joost software to view video streams for a range of different programmess.
Thses include cartoons and animation, entertainment and film, sports, comedy,
lifestyle and documentaries and sci-fi.
Vintage television programmes such as Starsky and Hutch and Charlie’s Angels
from Sony Pictures
Television will also be available, as will CNN, and comedy Adult Swim which
will be provided by Turner, a division of
Time Warner.
As the site revenue is generated by adverts that will be featured during film
content, the service is completely free for the public to use. However users
might need to check their internet service provider's usage policy before using
the service, as some people could find themselves exceeding limits set by their
provider.
Those who do not receive an invite to join the service now will have to wait
until later this year when the site will be open to the public, to take
advantage of the services.
