Telecoms giant BT has lined up a deal to purchase the
Brightview
Group, which owns ISP Madasafish and provides broadband services for the
supermarket Waitrose.
The group, which has around 62,000 customers in the UK, said it intends to
sell to BT for around £15.8m subject to approval from its shareholders.
Although
BT
would not go into detail about any future plans, it said billing and customer
services for Madasafish and
Waitrose customers would
currently remain as they are.
Ian Livingston, BT Retail's chief executive, said: “This acquisition will
ensure that Brightview's customers can benefit from our market-leading services,
resources and technology development as well as the excellent customer service
they're already receiving."
Brightview staff were unavailble for comment when we called. However, price
comparison
site,
Uswitch, warned that Madasafish and Waitrose broadband customer could see
customer support levels slip. Both companies have been highly rated for service
in the past.
Uswitch representative Chris Frost said: “It’s a well known fact that smaller
ISP’s are better for their customer service, they do not have as many customers
so can give each individual more time. There is just too much demand on bigger
ISP’s.
“Until the integration between brightview and BT has been completed and comes
into effect Madasafish and Waitrose customers will probably not see a great deal
of change. He recommended that people keep a close eye on the way that they were
treated and reviewed this when the time came up to change their contracts.
