The Tate Gallery has put a range of rare film and audio files from its
archives online.
The museum teamed up with BT to digitise the original format so people can
watch or listen to a range of artists and cultural figures from the 1960s
through to the present day.
Included in the line up are an intimate black-and-white home movie of British
sculptor and artist Barbara Hepworth, a film by the artist Felipe Ehrenberg and
a lecture by environmental artist Christo.
Will Gompertz, director of
Tate
Media, said: “As one of the flagship initiatives of the newly formed Tate
Media, the BT Tate Player demonstrates BT’s credentials in the field of
broadband provision and is a remarkable achievement, increasing accessibility to
the arts through pioneering technology.
“It’s an exciting project with limitless potential, and we’re delighted to be
able to share with a broader audience the original audiovisual content of the
Tate Archive.”
The
BT
Tate Player can downloaded from the Tate Gallery's homepage.
