Camera maker Pentax has recalled a number of power cords after it discovered
they could be dangerous to users.
The
company said it had been made aware that a small percentage of the three-pin
plug cords may have a manufacturing defect.
It warned this could surface if the connector is subject to stress, a crack
may appear in the figure-of-eight connector which links to a battery charger.
The fault may lead to the electric contacts to becoming exposed and possibly
leading to injury.
Pentax said the recall only applies to specific products sol after 20
November 2006 through both retail and online outlets in the UK. Products
potentially affected are the Optio A20, Optio T20, Optio W20, Optio S7, Optio
L20 and the K10D.
Although the plug cords were supplied to Pentax with full British and
European safety accreditation. Customers are asked to check the plug cords of
these cameras.
To identify a potentially faulty plug cord, customers should check the rear
of the three-pin plug cord by holding it by the end with the three pins and
turning the pins to face away from them.
If the box containing text says 'Approved BSI KM 45980' Pentax said people
should stop using the plugs immediately and contact the he Pentax Helpline on
0800 2889410. The company has also set up a
help
page on its website where further information and images can be found.
A replacement cord which will be despatched immediately. The helpline will
also arrange for customers to return the recalled cord free of charge.
