Young people who have been teaching others about using computers are to be
recognised in the 2008 BT Internet Ranger of the Year Awards.
Now in their fourth year, the awards look for young people aged 16 and under
who have helped older generations develop skills and confidence online.
It is hoped that people will use those skills to access cheaper goods and
services and find employment opportunities.
The 2008 winner will receive a notebook computer, £250 of vouchers towards IT
equipment and a trip to the BT Tower in London to collect their prize on 29
September 2008. Five runners up will also receive a notebook computer.
Mike Hughes, head of BT’s digital inclusion campaign, said: “Young people
receive a lot of criticism in the media, but this campaign gives credit where
credit is due, highlighting the good work being done by BT Internet Rangers
around the country.
“This type of intergenerational learning is a simple and obvious solution to
promoting digital inclusion for all.”
Anyone wanting to enter the competition should visit the
BT Internet Rangers website
and either write a short piece or upload a video detailing why they think they
should win. The deadline for entries is 18 August 2008.
