BT to charge montly fee for catch up TV

BT Vision to charge for BBC content

BT customers must turn to their PCs and use the BBC's Iplayer to get free catch up TV

Written by Dinah Greek, Computeractive

BT Vision has introduced a monthly subscription for its previously free on-demand BBC TV content.

BT Vision users must now sign up to a £3 a month Replay service for the IPTV service component of the BT Vision video on demand/Freeview hybrid service. The subscription also covers the 4oD and BBC iPlayer service.

However those who don’t wish to play can still access this content via other computing devices using their broadband connection. However BT argued that seeing it through its television service meant viewers were watching programmes in "top quality".

Virgin Media, which also offers all its TV customers free catch up TV from the BBC and 4Od said it had no plans to start charging its customers for this content.
